6 best Google AI Mode rank trackers for 2026
If a tool says it tracks Google AI, ask which Google experience it means. AI Mode needs its own checks, its own source evidence and a clear definition of what “rank” measures.

The AI Mode rank trackers worth shortlisting
Reputably, Semrush, Ahrefs Brand Radar, Otterly.AI, Peec AI and Profound belong on an AI Mode shortlist. Their fit differs: Reputably for local and agency workflows, Semrush and Ahrefs for SEO teams, Otterly and Peec for recurring prompt monitoring, and Profound for a larger programme with the required plan.
Before buying, require three things: explicit Google AI Mode support, an inspectable record of the answer and a definition of its mention or citation metrics. “Google AI” on a feature list is not enough. If you mean the summary within ordinary search results, read our AI Overviews rank tracking comparison instead.
How we made this shortlist
Disclosure: Reputably publishes this guide and is included in the comparison. We reviewed the other vendors’ public product documentation on 14 September 2026; we did not run a controlled trial of their products. Reputably’s description draws on our product source review and local walkthroughs. Examples below are illustrative, not customer results.
We selected tools whose current official material explicitly identifies AI Mode. We compared the tracking workflow and plan access, then added a buyer-run validation method. We did not invent precision scores, traffic estimates or first-hand test results.
“Best fit” is our editorial judgment about a workflow, not a measured performance ranking. Plan inclusion can change. Use the linked documentation to confirm your exact requirements. Our editorial policy explains our sourcing and use of AI assistance.

The shortlist, with the trade-offs
These tools document AI Mode, but that does not mean every plan includes it or every collector sees the same answer. Use the trial to check your own requirements.
Reputably
Live Claude web search is included in every plan. Reputably uses Claude’s plan-based collector with web search and captures the disclosed source trail, with no separate Claude engine add-on. Compare Claude coverage and collection methods.
Reputably keeps Google AI Mode separate from AI Overview, ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. You can inspect prompt-level mentions, competitors and available cited sources, with three extra phrasings for each original question.
This is useful when wording and location affect which businesses get recommended. Do not interpret an unavailable retrieval trail as proof that Google performed no searches. Reputably reports the evidence a provider supplies; it does not reconstruct Google’s private reasoning. It also does not replace a classic organic rank tracker.
Best fit: Local businesses and agencies comparing buyer questions across Google and other assistants.
Semrush
Semrush Prompt Tracking explicitly supports Google AI Mode and documents saved result snapshots, mentions and source pages. Its position metric follows the placement of response and citation elements, so read that definition before comparing it with another vendor’s brand rank.
Confirm the AI Visibility subscription and target market. A familiar SEO interface is convenient, but it does not make its AI positions equivalent to organic rankings.
Best fit: Teams that want AI Mode tracking near their existing search campaigns.
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs Brand Radar distinguishes its pre-collected AI Visibility Index from Custom Prompts. Both AI Mode and AI Overviews are listed, and the distinction matters for a new or narrowly focused business.
Use the index for exploration and compare it with custom prompt tracking for the exact queries in your buying journey. Check the allowance and schedule rather than assuming an index result is a fresh run of your question.
Best fit: SEO researchers who need both a broad discovery index and specific buyer questions.
Otterly.AI
Otterly.AI lists AI Mode among its monitored experiences. Its feature documentation covers prompt monitoring, brand reports and source analysis.
Ask to see the AI Mode output for one of your own prompts, with the collection date and chosen location. Otterly’s help page lists AI Mode as an optional add-on, so include that in your quote.
Best fit: Teams that want recurring prompt checks and straightforward citation reports.
Peec AI
Peec’s pricing matrix lists AI Mode and AI Overviews separately, with daily tracking on its self-serve tiers and a choice of three models.
Decide whether both Google experiences belong in your selection before adding assistants. Ask the vendor to price the final combination of models, prompts and client projects; a headline prompt allowance is only part of that decision.
Best fit: Teams comparing AI Mode with a small, deliberately selected engine set.
Profound
Profound’s current plan comparison places Google AI Mode among enterprise capabilities. Starter is ChatGPT-only; a low entry price is not an AI Mode quote.
Ask for the package that includes your target engines, regions and reporting workflow. This option is worth investigating when multiple teams will use the same data, but the entry tier does not meet an AI Mode-only requirement.
Best fit: Larger teams making AI Mode part of a broader answer-engine programme.
What does an AI Mode rank tracker measure?
An AI Mode rank tracker records what Google’s conversational search experience returns for chosen questions. Depending on the product, it can measure whether your brand is named, whether an owned page is cited, where a recommendation appears and which competitors are included.
There is no single cross-vendor meaning of “rank”. A position in a numbered recommendation list is different from a position in the source links. A brand can be recommended without its own website being cited, or cited as a source without being recommended as a supplier. Read the answer before drawing a conclusion from its number.
Google also treats AI Mode and AI Overviews as separate experiences: its site-owner guidance explains that their models and techniques can differ, producing different responses and links. Combining them into one Google score can hide a weakness in the experience you actually want to improve.
Track a buying decision across more than one wording
Consider a fictional accounting firm serving Bristol. “Best accountants in Bristol” is a useful broad query, but it leaves several real decisions unexplored: tax returns, limited-company accounts and changing accountants. Give each decision its own prompt group rather than treating every related question as an interchangeable keyword.
| Role | Question |
|---|---|
| Original | Which accountants in Bristol help small limited companies? |
| Extra phrasing 1 | Who offers accounting for small limited companies in Bristol? |
| Extra phrasing 2 | Can you recommend a Bristol accountant for a small limited company? |
| Extra phrasing 3 | What are good accounting firms for a small limited company based in Bristol? |
The four questions keep the buyer, service and location stable. They do not insert the firm’s name or introduce a new requirement such as “cheapest”. Reputably’s three additional phrasings per prompt support this kind of comparison. These example questions are editorial illustrations, not claims about measured search volume.
Keep the wording recorded with the result. If you edit a question, treat that as a change to the test rather than silently comparing it with an earlier, different question. Adding more variants can improve coverage while also changing the overall score.
A practical way to test an AI Mode tracker
Use your own questions in a trial. A demonstration built entirely around a vendor’s chosen brand is not enough to establish fit. You do not need an elaborate benchmark, but you do need a repeatable record.
- Name the experience. Ask to open an AI Mode answer. Confirm it is not an AI Overview, a Gemini API answer or a classic search result relabelled as AI Mode.
- Record the conditions. Keep the wording, collection time, locale, language and any available device or session settings with the answer. Ask which conditions the collector can actually control.
- Inspect one positive and one negative result. Find the brand in the original evidence, then check a query where it is absent. Confirm the report agrees with both.
- Open the cited URL. Confirm that the linked page supports the context in which it appears. A domain total alone cannot tell you which article or page deserves attention.
- Repeat the same question later. Check that the new result has a new observation time and the earlier evidence remains inspectable. Do not demand identical answers as proof of accuracy.
- Check partial failure. Ask what happens when a provider times out. A failed collection should not become an answer in which your brand was missing.
- Take the record away. Verify that the report or export contains enough detail to explain the result to someone who was not present for the trial.
Different countries can return identical citations, so identical output is not proof that a location setting failed. Conversely, different output does not prove correct targeting. Verify the configured location and collection method alongside the answer.
Build an AI Mode report you can explain
Start with the question set and its purpose. “We tracked twelve wordings about accountants for small companies in Bristol” is more informative than “visibility rose”. Keep recommendation presence, owned citations and competitor mentions as separate measures.
Here is an illustrative calculation: twelve checks were planned, ten returned usable answers, your brand appeared in four, and your website was cited in two. Report a 40% mention rate among the ten completed answers, a 20% owned-citation rate, and two failed checks. Do not call it 40% of all AI Mode users or assume the two citation answers were also the four recommendation answers.
If a previous run completed all twelve checks, the changed sample may explain some of the difference. Inspect matching questions before describing movement as a gain or loss. For agency reporting, show the answer and the next action next to the percentage.
Turn a cited competitor page into a useful content decision
Suppose a comparison article is repeatedly cited for your target question. Read what it lets a buyer decide: features, exclusions, pricing structure, local availability or evidence of results. Compare that with your closest existing page before creating another URL.
If your existing guide already addresses the same decision, improve it there. If the intent is different, write a dedicated guide and connect the two. Add a direct answer near the top, a compact comparison and specific evidence for important claims. Do not copy the source’s sentences or manufacture a first-person test.
Track the same questions after the change, keeping the page revision date in your notes. A new citation is evidence that the page appeared in an observed answer. It does not by itself prove that the edit caused the citation or produced a sale.
For the wider tool landscape, use our AI visibility tracking tools comparison. AI Mode is one part of that programme, not a substitute for measuring the assistants your customers use.

AI Mode rank tracking questions
What is the best AI Mode rank tracker?
The best fit depends on your workflow. Shortlist Reputably for local and agency use, Semrush or Ahrefs for an established SEO workflow, Otterly.AI or Peec for recurring prompt monitoring, and Profound for a larger programme on a plan that includes AI Mode. Test your own questions before choosing.
Does tracking Gemini also track Google AI Mode?
No. A Gemini model response is not automatically an observation of Google AI Mode. Require explicit AI Mode support and ask which experience and collection method produced the saved answer.
Is Google AI Mode rank the same as an organic Google position?
No. AI Mode tools can measure recommendation order, citation placement or brand presence. Organic position describes a search result’s placement. Compare metrics only when their definitions match.
Can I check AI Mode visibility for free?
You can manually record a small set of AI Mode answers where the experience is available to you. Save the exact questions, date, location context, mentions and cited URLs. This gives a useful spot check, not automated monitoring or a representative measure of every user.
Do more prompt variations guarantee better AI rankings?
No. Variations broaden the questions you measure; they do not influence the engine’s ranking by themselves. Keep the buying intent consistent and use the differences in answers to decide what information to improve.
